The Sand War
The Sand War is a great war that broke out between the sorcerers and the Kimrak Church, resulting in Taphrem being destroyed.
History
Spark of Conflict:
40 years before the story begins, the Sand War leveled the city of Taphrem. The war had been started when the Decree of the Goddess was violated by sorcerers entering the World Map Tower. Kimrak, aware of the existence of the World Book, became hellbent on retrieving it from the Tower.
Conclusion:
It's theorized that Taphrem was destroyed because the Tower's security protocol would bring all citizens to the Tower of Fang. A fortress in its own right, it could survive the attack. However, this left the city utterly defenseless. As Kimrak moved to raze the city, they were outflanked by sorcerers who'd been preparing to launch an overwhelmingly powerful attack. This led to Kimrak losing by a considerable margin. Why, exactly, they insisted on destroying the city when none of its people were there is a matter of speculation, but undeniably resulted in their loss.
