"Ghost, Sleep On My Chest!"V3  - Afterword

"Hiii! This issue is brought to you by ~M — E~, Hirietta."

"... And the author, who has found himself reduced to a side character..."

"(Ignoring him) The author has been a tremendous help to people who're looking for a new way of life. Take for example, writing "Only you can defeat Gracie!" in the previous volume's Afterword, only to then have Royce Gracie lose the Ultimate Tournament just two weeks before the book released."

"That's something that the general public probably won't understand... but it's a true story. I didn't think he'd lose for another month or so. I guess I was a little naive."

"But when you write about these sorts of thing, people might get the wrong idea and think the author is a martial arts maniac or something."

"Actually, I think there are a lot of people who misunderstand things... But it was just that, a misunderstanding. I can't even correct the names of the fighters in Volume 2 to their real names. Takada aside, that is."

 "But you wrote it yourself."

"Ahh, that's right. Still, let's leave the spoilers of the previous volume for now... Anyway, after the third book, I'm running out of things to write about in the afterword."

"Oh, really? I think there are plenty of things you could write about if you wanted to. Like (1) Spoiler alerts. (2) The author's recent life situation. (3) Surrealistic one-shot performances."

 "... I'm somewhat attracted to (3) but..."

"Do you have any tricks up your sleeve?"

 "Like Praying Mantis Fist demonstrations..."

"... Well ... That's surreal, I guess... I think Tatsuya Takeda did that in a movie, right? Or was it..."

"I think so. It's just the first thing that popped into my head, because of how the form looks. But personally, I prefer Henan's Xing Yi Quan ♪"

"I'm not sure why you're so happy about that, but... How do you propose to show that off in an afterword?"

"Hmm, that's true... Well then, a preview of the next volume it is."

"A preview, huh... That doesn't seem like such a good idea, either. That aside, while it's not exactly a preview, what are you going to do about this?"

 "What?"

"Do you realize how many people were introduced as the 'strongest' in the first volume, the second volume, and now this volume?"

"Guh... Actually, I was a little concerned about that. But it's like, you know, the world boxing championship. There's tons of them."

"Generally speaking, even if you made him the 'Strongest' as the hero of the story, he's actually kind of weak..."

"He's... you know, he's the welterweight champion."

"... Leonard will get mad at you if you keep running your mouth like that."

"I'm sure he's the strongest, so it should be fine. But seriously, this author gives the title of 'genius' to every single one of his characters, but there are actually ranks among them."

 "?"

"In other words, the protagonist's 'Genius' is comparative among students, whereas if you're talking about his teacher, C, he's the undeniable world-class 'Genius.'

 "Well... That sounds logical, but..."

 "What's your problem?"

"You're talking high and mighty given... who the author is."

"Well, this is all at the author's discretion, so what should I—"

"I'm sure he's not the type of guy who gets into fights with drunks on the morning train, gets off the train on the way to work, and ends up late for work, is he?"

"Ugh... Ignore me while I turn my eyes to the ceiling so I don't cry..."

"Oh, please. You wear your weakness on your sleave."

"To be exact, though, I'm not late. It's a flexible schedule. And it was only five minutes."

"Well, that's true. If you were really late, you'd be fired."

 "I don't really care if I'm fired."

 "... You're a Sucharaka Employee, aren't you...?"

"Well, this is just the kind of guy that I am, and I hope you'll continue to support me."

 "Finally, you're getting it together."

 "See you later!"

 "BYE!"

- Notes

  • Xing Yi Quan is a form of Chinese martial arts.

  • Leonard is referring to Sugar Ray Leonard, a famous middleweight boxing champion.

  • Welterweight is a middleweight champion. What the author is trying to convey here is that while many of his characters are the best at something, they're usually best in a very specific way, and that the way that they are best may not always be in a way that surpasses all other characters.

  • Sucharaka Employee is a reference to an old office comedy show from Japan.
