The Great Heart

The Great Heart is a village of dragon worshippers who were organized under MacDougall, a fanatic from Kimrak. Under his careful rulership the village was converting into, effectively, a manufacturing plant for weapons, and was eventually destroyed by the Deep Dragons. The village is referred to as the capital for those who seek the truth, with the surrounding land being called sacred land.

Overview

Basic Overview

The city consists of mostly barn-like huts for houses. Because of the rough terrain, the villagers don't keep horses, but keep pigs and other livestock. At the center of the village is a large building with a round roof, which serves as a workshop. It is in this workshop that citizens of The Great Heart manufactured guns.

A tall building with a tower is constructed beside the workshop, seemingly serving as a church. Its steeples are decorated with statues of black wolves, honoring the dragon race (Deep Dragons) that the villagers worship. The tower stairs are incredibly steep, almost ladder-like, as the architect chose not to use a spiral staircase. It's mentioned that the modern buildings of the city were designed by a single architect that MacDougall had brought from Kimrak. The Tower is where Fiena resides, and is off limits to anyone except MacDougall.
A small prison is located in the basement of the tower, where the walls are made of dirt. The surfaces that are expected to be touched frequently are treated with chemicals, giving the stairs a rather unpleasant smell.

MacDougall's Mansion

MacDougall's mansion is larger than the surrounding huts, with a small flower bed at the entrance. Its design is typical for a mansion, but because of the difficulty of getting modern items like paint in Fenrir Forest, the house is all bare wood. The interior is clearly a male-dominated residence, with clothes, liquor bottles, and other garbage all over the floor. This mess spans almost all rooms, aside from MacDougall's, which is minimalistic and tidy.

History

Origin:

It was said that while some dragons, such as the Wyrd Dragons, passed weapons of magical power down to their worshippers, others used humans themselves to fight their wars and destroy sorcerers. This village was originally one such village, serving as a proverbial arsenal of humans who would fight on the dragon's behalf. The current residents are descended from those villagers, which Fiena infers makes them the true dragon worshipers.

Prior To Main Story:

The Great Heart first existed as a refuge for Dragon Worshippers. It was said that their villages dotted Fenrir Forest, with the villagers fleeing any time they were spotted by a dragon or a ranger. At the time, their villages were crude, with no permanent fixtures.

Development:

Three years prior to the story, MacDougall came to the village with an engineer/architect from Kimrak. He built the church / tower along with the workshop, which he used to manufacture pistols. MacDougall soon became a hero, for bringing weapons that he said could be used to kill sorcerers. Eventually, he was promoted to the village guru / priest, and named his village The Great Heart.

Destruction:

The Great Heart was destroyed when the Deep Dragons invaded. Though the villagers were left alive thanks to the combined efforts of Orphen, Fiena, Cleao, and Leki, the village itself was destroyed in its entirety by the dragon's dark magic. This left the villagers with nowhere to go, and though they struggled with the idea, they ultimately chose to leave the Forest and disperse to surrounding villages.
