Hydrant is a former student of the Whurl Classroom. Though he graduated to become a member of the Executive Department, he still seems to loosely follow orders from his Master, though easily abandons them in the pursuit of his own interests.

Personality

Hydrant has always had an attitude, but after his injury, he became outright vindictive. He's known to go off on his own, ignoring the spirit of orders from higher ups to achieve his own agenda, which often relates to revenge. He doesn't care who he hurts, or if his actions also bring misfortune to his colleagues, and tends to be self-serving until the end.

Appearance

Hydrant has a light physique, and a feminine face. His black hair is slightly wavy. He lost the left side of his face to an injury received from Orphen during his teenage years. This horrific wound spans from his temple to the tip of his jaw, with mutilated flesh and no hair present on the burned side.

History

Career Within The Tower:

Hydrant studied under Whurl for a considerable period of time before he was promoted to a member of the Executive Department, making him one of the Tower Elders. Even so, he is considered one of the best, if not the best student that Whurl ever trained. During his earlier years he gained the title of Hydrant, because just like fire hydrants, he was seemingly everywhere.

A Series Of Violent Tendencies:

When he was young, Hydrant's parents were violently killed by a group of dragon worshippers. This started him off on a bad path, leading to a life of violent crime. Much of which he could pass off as justified, or at least argue well enough to see far less punishment than he should.

As the Whurl Class began to make their move for power, Hydrant was one of the most prominent students sent out on secret missions by Whurl. He first intercepted a secret meeting of the Dragon Faith, rumored to possess the World Book, only to find that they'd already been interrogated. He and his group violently murdered every member of the gathering, and let the blame fall to their former interrogator, Azalie. Their goal was to prevent the further spread of information, so that no others could pursue this route of investigation. Not before finding out, however, that the book had fallen into Childman's hands five years prior.

Later on, he became aware that Leticia, Orphen, and Orphen's apprentice, Majic, were traveling via carriage to the Tower of Fang. They were ambushed by Dragon Faith members seeking revenge for the prior slaughter. He appeared in the battle, killing the person that Orphen was questioning. Though the group moved on without further incident, the remaining Dragon Faith members still turned up dead, with the blame falling on Leticia under the guise of necessary self defense. For this he only received a paycut.

Assault of the Childman Class:

Under his Master's guidance, Hydrant and his allies set out to acquire the World Book. To do this, they intended to interrogate members of the Childman Class. Though they'd intended to lure Orphen into a trap, they caught Leticia instead. Hydrant, furious about his past wounds, cut off two of Leticia's fingers in this conflict. He was reprimanded by Suaine, but though unable to be convinced, was ultimately driven to retreat by Azalie's unexpected return from the dead.

The Final Battle:

With word of Leticia's assault inevitably making its way back to the Tower of Fang, the Whurl Classroom had no choice but to act. Stabbers were sent to kill the messenger. Soon after, Hydrant, Vinvi, and Suaine were sent to kill the only on-duty guards, so that they could make their move without early detection. In spite of Whurl's faith in his former student, however, Hydrant was only interested in one thing: Getting his revenge against Orphen. He created a large explosion in the guard station that likely alerted the guards, and disregarded his mission entirely.

The battle continued until the two sorcerers faced off in an old training room. The bloody fight that ensued almost saw the other half of Hydrant's face ripped off, but he luckily escaped this fate, only to be defeated later. Severely wounded and unable to escape, he was picked up by Forte. He was offered a plea deal to get out of his punishment if he implicated his former classmates and master, and with little fight left, he agreed. As a member of the Executive Department, he was able to sign an executive order to have the Whurl Class arrested and questioned in relation to the crimes. Had he not complied, it's possible Whurl would have gotten away with his crimes, as there would've been no one to issue orders, which were required for Tower guards to take decisive action.

Skills

Stabber Training:

Hydrant was trained as a Stabber (assassin) in Whurl Karlen's classroom, and is said to be considered one of, if not the best Stabber to have ever come out of that classroom.

Spells

"Demon Sword of Puanuuk!"
With a loud whooshing sound, this photothermal wave spell is capable of great harm. In one instance it completely removed a man's head when it came in contact.

"Mirror of Tamankama!"
This mirror spell creates a magical barrier that can block even strong spells like the Sword of Light.

"Yaslan's Coffin!"
Yaslan's Coffin creates a field of compression around a given area. Everything from glass to stone is condensed within this space, though it takes several seconds, leaving room to counter.

Assorted Facts

 • In the Stray Journey anime, Hydrant was switched with Suaine as the one to hurt Cleao.
